For several years now Ed Sheeran has been one popular singer / songwriter in mainstream music . Part of his unique style has been his obvious tendency to play smaller body acoustic guitars . Lowden guitars has developed a whole line of Sheeran by Lowden guitars and in celebration of Ed ’ s new Equals record George
Lowden and Ed Sheeran have designed a new model – the “ Equals Edition ” Limited Edition Signature model - with a limited production run of 3,000 guitars .
Sporting a figured laminate walnut back and sides , paired with a solid Sitka spruce top , this smaller body acoustic feels nice in your hands . You can easily see the Maple ‘=‘ inlay at the 7 th fret and the Butterfly truss rod cover and heel cap – those along with the Equals Edition custom label , all giving this guitar some of Ed ’ s own signature personality .
The “ W ” size body is truly a smaller body guitar but it still fairly wide in the hips and smaller in the shoulders like some old Gibson LG guitar models from the 30 ’ s and 40 ’ s . The sides of this model are still pretty wide , and all of this helps give the “=” model it ’ s nice volume and tone . What I liked about it is the more that you strum harder … the more it responds . Walnut is a hard wood and the combo with the Spruce top gives a very nice and warm tone . The playability of the fingerboard is fine and the fretwork is well done . Being a smaller body , the nut width is a bit smaller than normal , but your hands adjust quickly to the change . When playing fingerstyle , the notes ring clear . Chords sound rich and full . For playing live on stage having the LR Baggs EAS VTC pick-up is a bonus – quality through and through .
