CITIZEN GUITAR CO . MODEL C2 ELECTRIC GUITAR | Mitch Bohannon
I love going to NAMM every year as I look for new gear that will be useful in worship , but sometimes I only need to pick up my phone and open Instagram . Just three weeks ago , a Citizen Guitar Co . post appeared on my feed , it caught my attention , and I ’ m even more impressed now with one in my hands than when I was seeing the photos .
What initially caught my attention was the fact that Citizen was looking for worship guitar players . To be so focused on the church is impressive and rarely seen . I reached out and was able to set up a call with Jeff Lee at Citizen .
I wanted to hear about the guitars , but even more about his mission .
A brief backstory … Jeff grew up in Cupertino , California . His family got into the guitar business in 2004 and Jeff became a part of the family business in 2006 . Through the insand-outs of the music industry , Jeff developed into a proficient guitar technician . His passion for actual guitar design began in 2017 , four years after becoming a Christian . By then he had begun serving in his worship ministry and ultimately became the main worship leader at his church singing and playing acoustic . It was a God-led passion within Jeff ’ s heart to create a guitar that was new ; something original that would bless the church and Citizen Guitar Co . was born , named after Philippians 3:20 . About naming the company , Jeff said , “ I wanted the guitar itself to encourage and remind the player of their identity in Christ and their blessed assurance of eternal life as a citizen of heaven .” Speaking from my impression , Jeff ’ s passion for Jesus is reflected well in his guitars , his business , and in his dealing with people .
When I pulled the guitar out of the shipping container , I really did not know what to expect .
