pretty ‘ dream come true ’ in that moment .
[ WM ] What can you both tell us about the new Bethel Music release , Homecoming ? You are both involved . I will ask you about some individual songs next .
[ Cory ] I think this project , and I will say it candidly , I am most excited about this record comparatively to the past 2 , 3 , maybe even 4 . I think Bethel Music , even in the album title Homecoming , is particularly applicable to Bethel Music as well . It feels like we ' re trying to get back to the roots of what made Bethel Music , Bethel Music ! We ' re coming home to that really beautiful , sort of free-in-the-spirit prophetic , just going with the flow of what the Holy Spirit wants to do . You feel that in the songs I think a little bit more . You feel that in the moment on the record , and for me that ' s particularly special because that ' s what I fell in love with Bethel Music for . So , I think as a whole it does feel like a homecoming of sorts . We ' re getting back to what matters . We ' re getting back to the things that make us who we are . I am particularly excited about this record even like I said , compared to the past two or three . I think it ' s got something special , and I think it ' s got something special for the church .
[ WM ] Wonderful ! Jonathan ?
[ Jonathan ] I ' ll really echo that , that I ' m really excited about it as well . As a label , we haven ' t done a record like this since We Will Not Be Shaken . And I don ' t think I realized that until we were in it and the video guys were talking . Because all the other , the compilation records we ' ve done up to this point , since We Will Not Be Shaken , which like 2014 have been just albums that we ' ve recorded at the church , and collecting the songs like through the year . But in this recording process , we all came to town for three days and over three nights stopped and tracked the album . And there ' s something very special . I keep getting a picture of building an altar . You build an altar to remember what God ' s done .
You put the rocks up there to remember that heaven met me at this moment , like Jacob at Bethel . But then you also build it so future generations can come back and remember what God ' s done and they can have an encounter there , because Melissa and I have one song on the album . I think Cory ' s on two songs . And some of the songs I hadn ' t heard them since my first-time hearing some of them . Paul and Hannah ' s song , Jenn ' s song , Jim and Chris and these different songs and I was getting wrecked just hearing them . And you could feel this significance of the moment of like , “ Oh , we are creating this altar where a lot of people are going to come back and encounter the Lord in these songs ”. So , it felt like a very authentic offering to the Lord over those three days .
[ WM ] Wonderful . So , there were some surprises there for you .
[ Cory ] Oh yeah .
[ WM ] Anticipation met with surprises . That can be a good thing .
[ Cory ] And we also recorded it during the
