Kari Jobe ’ s new full release , The Blessing , is scheduled for digital release on October 23 , 2020 by Capitol Christian Music Group . It was recorded live , sans audience , during Covid-19 , and is a masterful capturing of what is excellent in worship .
[ WM ] Kari , it ’ s great to visit with you today ! When we last spoke , the world was only a month into the virus pandemic . We were just in the very beginning stages . How are you and Cody and the kids doing ? I remember that you and Cody had started releasing home videos of worship songs to encourage the church . One of these songs was “ The Blessing ”, which has gone worldwide in its impact , with over 57 million streams and 30 million video views in just 8 months . This is incredible !
[ Kari Jobe ] We are doing very well ! Thank you for asking . It has been a new season for us to adjust to , as I ’ m sure it is for a lot of people , but I am excited to see how God uses this season and what He has next for all of us !
[ WM ] And your new album is titled The Blessing ! It was recorded live during this troubled time . It features a stunning 15 songs in total . Can you tell us about the project ’ s inception and developmental plan ? I will ask you some song-specific questions next .
[ Kari ] We started writing for this project a couple of years ago when God put it on my heart to record a live worship album . We started really leaning in to writing last fall , planning to release an album in 2021 , but God had different plans . Right after we released the song “ The Blessing ” I felt like God kept telling me to keep moving forward with writing , recording and releasing a record this year . As we kept moving

forward with this record , it seemed like the world continued to move backward due to the pandemic . There were multiple times where we had to go back and forth on whether or not we would be able to record a live project with people in the room . It didn ’ t make sense to me how that was going to happen otherwise , but I just had to keep trusting the Lord knowing that He is faithful . In July , we ended up recording this live project with no people in the room with the plan to release this album in October 2020 . Can I just say , it was one of the most powerful and sweet moments in the presence of God , and I can ’ t wait for people to experience it .
[ WM ] I believe you have three initial singles releasing from the new project . They are combined in a magnificent worship video medley , which I will include in a link for our interview . “ First Love ”, “ Embers ”, and “ Obsession ” feature your husband Cody ( Carnes ). Can you tell us about both “ First Love ” and “ Embers ”?
