that’ s actually real for us … it is easy for me to understand that God rejoices over me with dancing and singing because my Dad did.” I had an example there of how a father relates that when I think about God that way, I’ m like,“ Oh, that’ s not a hard jump for me to realize, maybe God feels that way about me too.”
[ WM ] Yeah. When I watched that video, it was extremely joyful and surprising. I’ m talking, well, both videos were this way, but I’ m right now I’ m thinking about the one where he came up on stage. And so, it was really joyful. It was a surprise and at the same time very emotional. I mean, I teared up because of the implications of all of that. So gosh, well done. How old is your dad?
[ Pat ] Dad’ s 74.
[ WM ] That’ s my age! See, I would love to meet your Dad someday.
[ Pat ] Oh, he would love it. And again, that was just two or three weeks ago when he got on stage with me. That was the first weekend of the Brandon Lake tour. So that night, I think even in that moment I was like, this is colliding all over again in a different way. I know I want to go to the ageism thing because that feels important. I have often thought about because I’ ve grown up in the scriptures, Levites performed their priestly duty until they were 50, and then they’ d stopped doing those duties. And it was the younger generation’ s turn, but the older generation helped them. It was never like, you’ ve hit this age, now you’ re done. It was like, that’ s actually when probably the most important work begins.
And the example is set of not just how do you functionally perform the duties, but how do you encourage someone else in their spiritual formation and set an example of, I’ m going to use the term generosity. It’ s more than that though. Hey, one day you’ re going to have to do what I’ m doing too. And there may come a day when you’ re not going to be the worship leader anymore and you’ re not the most prominent voice or whatever, it’ s someone else’ s. And when that day comes, you may tend to think your purpose is done, or you may tend to think that my time is up like, oh no, God doesn’ t work like that. Now let the work begin. All that experience you’ ve had, help this kid, help him, show him what it means to be 74 and fully alive and filled with joy, joy and the hardship living together what unbelievable living testimony to watch someone on fire like that. And I think that that example, that’ s what it does for me, I’ ve had that my whole life.
I also know that in sharing that aspect, I’ ve had people reach out and just be like, oh my gosh, I just had a picture of the way God relates to me. Does God relate to me the way Pat’ s Dad relates to him? It would be groundbreaking for
