to be so brutally honest , as you said .
That at least I can say at the end of it , well I was authentic . This is everything that was going through in my head . That might not resonate with everyone and that ’ s actually fine . But maybe it ’ ll help some people by what I ’ ve experienced . That first thing I wrote went and still in the dark days , if you will , the earlier side of the record where it would ’ ve been too depressing to release . That was also in the middle of the pandemic where I just went through this real period where I just was trying and just couldn ’ t really write . That ’ s what that ’ s all about . My favorite line in that song is , “ We ’ re going to lie in the dirt , but we ’ ll stare at the stars .”
[ WM ] There ’ s also a song on your project
Faith Is
called “ Faith Is ”. Again , lyrical depth and honesty for a subject matter that often that does not get much attention . You write ... “ I ’ m at war with myself , and I don ’ t like how it feels ”. C . S . Lewis himself is said to have gone through a period of deconstruction , where he doubted the precepts of his faith , until he put his faith all back together . What can you tell us about this song ?
[ Benjamin ] That ’ s really well-articulated and that ’ s what this song is all about . It was written in that same period . My friend John Guerra , well , we wrote it together . That ’ s exactly the journey I was on , what you referred to with C . S . Lewis . It was the highest of , I guess my worldview . The house that I built for myself was falling apart around me and I knew I needed to rebuild . Because people really give deconstruction a hard time . One of the things I find funny about that is , no one is willingly smashing down a house .
No one ’ s deconstructing for the sake of deconstructing . You don ’ t tear down perfectly good things . If you get to the point where you ’ re having to bring in a bulldozer or a wrecking ball , it ’ s because things got beyond repair . I think what could be even more dangerous is
