[ WM ] Be it electric or acoustic , how would you describe the role of the guitar in the framework of modern worship ?
[ Wesley ] Our job is to serve the Lord with the talents God has given us . It ’ s not about us and all the cool gear and guitars we play . It ’ s about praising God and not being a distraction to others doing the same .
[ WM ] Church of the Highlands celebrated its twentieth anniversary this year . You ’ ve been there for fourteen years , and on staff for four . How has the culture there impacted you as a father , servant , and worship guitar player ?
[ Wesley ] I came to Highlands as a broken teenager several years ago and God showed me a vision in a dream that I would find my life and family there . I can finally say as of this year God has fulfilled that dream because I am a father of two beautiful little girls ! I am so thankful for the journey God has brought me through from being offered a full-time job , meeting my wife at church and starting a family . God has taught me to be patient through all of this for sure . And anytime I get frustrated with anything church related , because you know we all do at some point , I just remember the path God put me on and the patience He has taught me , and it always gets me through the tough times .
[ WM ] You also play on outside projects . Does that tend to happen remotely ?
[ Wesley ] I do mainly track guitar at my home studio for any side projects . It ’ s really convenient especially now .
[ WM ] Thanks for making time for us Wes . Is there anything else you ’ d like to share ?
[ Wesley ] Thank you so much everyone for all the kind words on YouTube ! It truly brings me joy knowing that I can help guitarists and churches all around the world !
