CAXIXI Pronounced ka-she-she , this instrument is traditionally made with a woven basket cone attached to a circular piece of gourd and contains some type of fill material ( beads , seeds , shells , shot , etc .). Instead of gourd or coconut shell , some models feature a synthetic base . The gourd floor functions as the main striking surface . To my ear , the caxixi produces a light shaker-like sound with a pleasantly imprecise attack as the fill material strikes against the slightly convex floor and interior of the cone . Holding a basket in each hand allows the player to play fairly rapid rhythms .

FINGER CYMBALS Traditionally in Middle Eastern culture , these small metal disks are rhythmically clapped together while attached to the thumb and a finger . Composers and arrangers in the West have utilized finger cymbals in a less rhythmic fashion — e . g . a single shimmering accent in a musical passage . The finger cymbals provide a similar yet different alternative to the triangle tone . Check out a couple of playing methods in this short tutorial video : Have you already imagined how one or more of those instruments will fit into a song ? Are you ready to invest in some new sounds for your palette of timbres ? Only half a dozen instruments were mentioned in the article ; there are many more you can discover within a short amount of time at the library or on the web . Explore the diverse world of percussion sounds and enrich your tonal possibilities .
