[ Mariah ] I can ’ t remember . I don ’ t think so . I think they were not from Wyoming , but from the last camp that we did in Sebastopol up north in California , at least one of the songs . Oh , actually “ Desperate ”, but it ’ s not in this EP . It ’ s on volume two .
Okay , okay . Yeah , we had an album , I think right after we had spoke to you that a lot of the songs came out of Wyoming and so
Pretty much all those songs . Yeah , it came from there . And then we had a couple more just up north , more writing trips to see what we could get . And so yeah , some of these came from that , but a lot of them came from just being in LA and writing . Last year I think we wrote just in our church building , which is hard for us . We could do a million other things and not focus , but we actually wrote these songs in our building , a lot of them .
[ WM ] I ’ m going to ask you about two specific songs and then I ’ ll ask you about the others . I want to start with “ Your Love Will Never Change ”. Oh my goodness , what a song ! It ’ s in 6 / 8time , has great changes and I ’ ve never heard a worship song like it . And that ’ s because it reminds me of something from the seventies Philadelphia Sound released under the Philadelphia International Records label by the great Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff . Philadelphia International Records was the rival to Motown . And that song , “ Your Love Will Never Change ” sounds like those guys wrote it and that it came out of that time period . So I love it . Tell me about the song .
[ Aaron ] That is probably from one of the guys on our team , Andy Andres Figueroa ( and Colin Dennard ). The way that Andy just plays music and just comes up with things . It ’ s got such an R & B type of vibe to it , so I totally see an adjacent to Motown connection . I need to check that out .
[ WM ] Check out Philadelphia Sound or Philadelphia International Records , Check out
The Stylistics , Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes , and others . It was kind like Motown , but another step up in terms of the arrangements and the really lush orchestrations . It ’ s wonderful music . And so that song was like that to me . I couldn ’ t believe it in the context of modern worship .
[ Mariah ] Actually , something that we did that was really cool that inspired that song is we went on that writing trip . We made this on Spotify .
You can make a collaborative playlist . And so we made a playlist and all of us put our top five songs that were inspiring us in the moment . And we listened to the playlist the whole trip . When we got there to the house after driving from the airport for an hour or two , we had been on our phones listening to these songs and getting ideas . And so there was a song that someone else had put on there . I don ’ t know if it was Aaron or Colin or someone that kind
