Alright , and “ Crowns Down ”, please tell us about that one ?
[ Josh ] “ Crowns Down ” has been a song that ’ s been special to me even before I finished it . I think three years ago I was flying back and leading worship at Bethel . And on a Sunday there I was leading worship .
And this little moment just kind of came right there in worship . And then we just sang that chorus . I just knew that was such a sweet moment . But that time I felt like I needed to take this and write the rest of this song . And so I remember I sat on that . Two years later , I was down in Dallas with Gateway Church with friends of mine there , and we were writing for one of their worship albums . And I was actually about to leave . We had been writing all day . We had written another song , and I was about to leave because I had to go catch my flight to come back home . And I said , “ Hey , before I leave , I ’ ve got 30 minutes . This is a song , a chorus idea that I just started singing at church a couple of years ago . Tell me what you guys think about it .” I played them a little recording of it from that Sunday , and they were all so moved . They said , “ Oh my goodness , we have to do something with this .” So , we went to Revelation 4 where it talks about laying the crowns down and the angels surrounding the throne singing Holy .
The verses came so quick after that , there were just four of us in the room , and then we started working on the bridge . And it was just so simple . I loved it . Two days later , one of the guys texted me and said , “ We think we finished the song ”. They finished the verses , and they sent it to me . I thought that it was exactly what it was supposed to be . It was perfect .
[ WM ] That ’ s awesome . Great story . And so , it was born out of really a spontaneous moment just like the song “ Breathe ” by Marie Barnett . I want to bring up the subject of presence to you and specifically , God ’ s presence . What would you like to say to worship leaders and team members about this most important dynamic of congregational worship ?
[ Josh ] Wow ! I mean that ’ s one of the goals for what worshiping is . I want to just tell the Lord how worthy he is . I think that is worship . It is like the vehicle with which to do that . He says He inhabits His praises , and he wants to come and dwell with us . I know He is always with us . I remember a friend of mine who ’ s a pastor , he was saying , “ Yes , the Lord , he ’ s with us and we come here and worship ”. It ’ s not like we ’ re asking him maybe to come because he ’ s not here . Lord , come , where are you going ? He said he ’ d never leave us for forsake us .
I feel like there ’ s nothing like His presence coming and changing the atmosphere . And I think so much more can happen in those
