That’ s how I know I didn’ t.” I resonated with those two lines because after surviving stage four esophageal cancer, someone told me that I had beaten cancer and I told them,“ I didn’ t beat anything. The Lord touched me.” Tell us about that song?
[ Aodhán ] Wow. Yeah. I mean, that’ s amazing. That’ s incredible. Thanks for sharing that. I mean, that’ s so amazing. That song really was like, for us, I remember probably halfway through the week at the studio and Ben and I were talking and we’ re like,“ We probably need a song that just came from us and speaks to this week in a lot of ways and speaks to our journey.” I think, I mean, we’ ve mentioned it a few times, but the way that the entire week came together, even just the people that could make it, we had so many incredible talents from all over the world. A lot of the people that we’ ve done ministry with at Hillsong for 20 years out of nowhere were able to be there with three day’ s notice. I just felt like there was these God little winks throughout the process of putting it together that we just couldn’ t deny.
We couldn’ t do it if we tried. And that was really what sparked the song. And we were just sitting and talking and Ben and I were sitting by the piano and we were talking about that very thing. We couldn’ t have done this if we tried. It’ s 100 % a God thing! And the song just started coming out. And I think within that we were talking about even just, it’ s crazy. Exactly what you were saying before. It’ s crazy that Ben from Belfast, Ireland, somehow found a CD in a record store that was a Hillsong CD, didn’ t know who Hillsong was, put the CD on, listened to it, and decided,“ Wow, because the presence of God is so thick and so strong. I want to be where this is.” And then Ben ends up taking a flight to Australia. We meet in Australia because I need to borrow pants to go to work. Then we become best friends so quickly. I didn’ t know he wrote music. He didn’ t know I wrote music. All of a sudden we’ re writing music together! Then we end up in L. A. and Nashville and then this whole thing happens.
