Austin-based Warm Audio has recreated the classic hard-to-find Moog Ring Modulator pedal . RingerBringer serves as a tabletop keyboard CV and audio modulation effect , or it can be a powerful mod pedal on a guitar pedalboard . This pedal can also be used on bass for a modern vibe . It ’ s a pedal with many creative uses , both live and in the studio .
OUT OF THE BOX : RingerBringer comes protected in a fitted foam case insert . Feet are already attached , and a multi-language manual is included . There are three sections on the top of the pedal . The Left has an LFO Amount knob , a Rate knob , and a switch for Square or Sine wave . In the middle are the global Drive knob , Level , LFO , and Bypass LED indicators , and below them a standard footswitch . To the right are a Modulator Mix knob , a Frequency knob , and a LOW / HI switch . Audio In / Out and a 9vDC power jack are on the back . Also , there are seven CV ¼ inch jacks : Rate , Amount , Mix , Frequency , LFO Out , Carrier In , and Carrier Out . Faithful to the original , it has a Buffered Bypass . They even replicated the wood-like side panels . Great attention to detail . The Op- Amps and Transistors match the original as well . RingerBringer weighs in at 1.90 lbs .
IN USE : I ’ ve always been curious about this pedal but have yet to play through one . I have a good friend who is a fellow tone-junkie that has the original and loves it . The first thing I did was remove the bottom plate and take out the 9V battery . I ’ ve learned to do this to save myself trouble later . I ’ ll rely on my pedalboard power supply . RingerBringer has a surprisingly low 100 mA current draw for such a large unit . Next , I went to the Warm Audio site and registered the pedal to qualify for a warranty if needed . As I began my journey with this pedal , I learned that the Drive knob will always be engaged , even in Bypass . As you bring the level up , the
Level LED turns green to orange and red for overload . This works well for gain matching and letting you know if you are distorting . Next , I realized that , unlike most pedals , the Bypass button shows green for On and red for Bypass , staying faithful to the original . Starting with Mix , It ’ s a Wet / Dry mix for sure , but as you turn it up , other things also begin to happen . When fully counterclockwise , only the Drive is engaged .
There is an internal Carrier Oscillator affecting the Modulation and controlled by the Frequency knob . This affects pitch and harmonic content .
