Guitars . They can be tools used for a job and they can be works of art . Guitars also come in a variety of price ranges . Boutique guitars are normally priced over $ 6000 and in today ’ s economy , that price may be too low .
A few years ago , I reviewed the first of the Bourgeois Touchstone offering , the Vintage , and here we are with an upgrade that leans more to the “ work of art ” sentiment above . This Signature model is most definitely a player , but it is also something to admire . From the appointments on the headstock , to the fret markers down the neck , to the binding and the wood selection , this OM is absolutely stunning .
Just to recap the Touchstone series … Dana Bourgeois is a world-renowned master luthier and foremost authority on top voicing . Dana and his team hand voice every Touchstone top at his shop in Maine . In 2019 , Dana partnered with the Eastman Guitar Company , who Dana has trained to build the Touchstone bodies he has designed . After being voiced , the tops are sent to the Eastman shop to be assembled and then returned to Maine , where final setup and QC are conducted .
One thing to note : We all know there are guitar companies that have a “ side-brand ,” which consists of lower-priced , similar models made in a ( usually foreign ) factory and carrying their own unique brand name . The Touchstone is not a “ side-brand ,” as the series carries the Bourgeois name . Touchstones undergo the same treatment , in the same shop as the
