to be turned into something flesh and more like God intended . So that ’ s the thematic part of the album as well , right there in that song .
[ WM ] Really good stuff , David . Well , a couple more questions . I ’ ve taken my share of accounting classes , and I believe you majored in accounting . So , I ’ ve consistently told my music business students that in addition to a guitar case , they need to learn to carry a briefcase . Do you have any advice on this that you ’ d like to share ?
[ Crowder ] ( laughs ) Find a good lawyer , man . He ’ s your best pal . I think what you ’ re saying there is absolutely true . I feel like , especially now , the way that the transmission of music happens , you ’ ve got to be more than just somebody that ’ s writing songs . You ’ ve got to figure out how to get it to people . And now it ’ s really so easy to do it yourself . You got to understand your way through YouTube and the monetization of Instagram , all that . I mean , it is , speaking of a briefcase , you ’ re coming with a whole office behind you , I think . But the good thing is that I think growing up these days , people are savvier as far as how the socials work . I think the desired job for most people is some sort of influencer . So , they ’ ve got it figured out before we could back in the day . But it is really more grassroots than I think it ’ s ever been .
I thought we were doing grassroots stuff back at UBC ( University Baptist Church in Waco , TX ). We were doing the collegiate thing , and it felt like it was mostly word of mouth that was being transmitted . But then today , it ’ s really in your hands as far as how you ’ re going to get your music out . And luckily , there ’ s plenty of tools . As soon as you get your stuff on Spotify , my goodness , Spotify has so many opportunities for you to learn . Right now , I ’ ve got a masterclass that ’ s invited me to join , and I ’ m absolutely going to be a part of it . And I just need to know what ’ s going on out there .
Because if you believe in what you ’ re doing , you want to do everything that you can . You ’ re entrusted with something , something ’ s put in your hands . It ’ s not yours to begin with . So how are you going to use your talents as you ’ re going to come back and be like , “ Well , why ’ d you bury them ? No , look at what I ’ ve done . I ’ ve made good on what you ’ ve given me ”. And so , I think that is really wise . And I think if not for my Dad and his intense work ethic that he put into me , I probably wouldn ’ t . We probably wouldn ’ t be talking as well . I think that ’ s half of it .
[ WM ] So The EXILE has just released , and so I know that you ’ re going to tour it well , because you always do tour things well . Performance is a balance , isn ’ t it ? Besides the logistics of health and venue and sound systems and lighting and weather and equipment and travel and a hundred other variables , it ’ s ultimately a balance on stage between the familiar and the surprise . Will we see some surprises for The EXILE tour ?
