life . He was disappointed . He was frustrated . He went through everything down here so that we don ’ t have a God who doesn ’ t know what we go through , but he completely understands and more so because I ’ ve never died . I ’ ve never died a physical death . I ’ ve never been so disappointed like he fully completely was . I ’ ve never been nailed to a cross . I ’ ve never been spat on in the way that he was . We have a God who experienced everything so that when he says , “ Come to Me .” It ’ s like I ’ m coming to the one who knows everything , sees everything and has a better way for me and so my prayer is that this song would remind us of that invitation and even the fact that in the verse before this , this invitation , Jesus was kind of reprimanding all these cities where he had worked the hardest , but they had responded the least and then all of a sudden , he starts and he prays and then it says he now speaks to the people tenderly , which is beautiful . You ’ re all good , bless you . Which is so like Jesus as well that he works deeply , but he works tenderly . So , I pray it ’ s a sweet reminder for us to just come away with the Lord and allow Him .
[ WM ] I ’ m paraphrasing a bit , but Proverbs 18:16 states that “ a person ’ s gift can open doors and bring him before great men ”. You must have grown up hearing Switchfoot on Australian pop radio , and then hear you are years later , writing with Jon Foreman on the song , “ Carry Me Home ”. Tell us about this .
[ Taya ] Yes , it was a surreal moment ! That movie , A Walk to Remember , had the most beautiful haunting melody . I can honestly say Jon is a tornado of joy . He did everything that you would expect him to . I got to see him in concert a couple of months ago and it ’ s so obvious . I mean you would get it from his albums , but getting to see it live , it ’ s so obvious that he is doing the thing that he ’ s created and called to do , so to get to write with someone , it just seems like he ’ s not writing with any rules . He ’ s happy to do a chord change . He ’ s happy to change it up . There ’ s no cookie cutter way of doing it , which is great because I feel like I ’ m in mixed bag , so I fully related to that as well . Initially John and I had started writing at the start of 2020 and we were trying to write this song about heaven , and it was called “ How Bad Do You Want It ?” And it asks , “ Do you want heaven this much ? How bad do you want it ?” I loved it because it was just a call to remember . And it is a journey through that . It was more to me because I was just learning . I feel like I had a little bit of demo artist and holding onto the old thing , which maybe that ’ s prophetic , and we couldn ’ t get it to a point where I wanted it to be challenging , but it sounded quite like finger pointing .
Do we live with an eternal perspective and why don ’ t we live with an eternal perspective because we should . There ’ s so much more here than meets the eye , yet we settle for such little access to God . It was just this thing that was a wrestle and I couldn ’ t get it and so we kind of laid it down and I was so bummed because I loved the joy factor and I loved the up song and who knows , maybe I just need to live through a few things in a couple of years and then maybe pick it back up again ?
Yeah and God ’ s got perfect timing , I ’ ve learned that it ’ s not ours , and so then when I finally got
