would bring people into that place of going,“ Hallowed be your name, Lord, there’ s no other name we want to praise.”
I think about this project, The Chorus, because it came from a song called“ The Chorus.” The heart of it is let’ s just join in with a song that’ s been happening for all eternity and will keep happening for all eternity. This one’ s our attempt to join that song, but people are going to be joining that song forever. They’ ve already been going on forever and joining in with words that God’ s already spoken, the word of God that’ s already been given to us. I think so many songs on this record are that, which I love so much. And so yeah,“ Hallowed Be Your Name” feels like that for me. And then when we get to the bridge and just on earth as it is in heaven, not my will, but your will be done. It feels like every time we lead that in church; it’ s just like the room really rallies around that, and it’ s very special.
And it was cool to have Leeland, who’ s a friend of our church. He’ s not a part of our church, but he came and led that and he’ s such an anointed songwriter and worship leader. I’ ve been a Leeland fan since I was a kid, so it was really special to lead that with him. It was awesome.
[ WM ] So which came first the song or the title concept of the chorus?
Hallowed Be Your Name( feat. Andrew Holt and Leeland Mooring) // The Belonging Co
The Chorus( feat. Mitch Wong) // The Belonging Co
[ Andrew ] It was the song. Austin Davis, Mitch Wong, and I were writing a different song, and we were writing the bridge of another song and we kind of just landed on this concept of the chorus. What if we wrote a song called“ The Chorus?” We kind of just all looked at each other and thought“ We need to write that one now.” So, we abandoned the other song and just said,“ Okay, let’ s write this song.” We had the title and then I think Mitch just started singing and we all just started crying. I’ ve actually never experienced a moment like that in a song anywhere.
All-of-a-sudden it just felt like heaven filled the whole house within. We were all weeping and the way that it just loops perfectly. It never ends. It felt like, oh wait, we’ ve just stumbled on something that is very special. And we literally just sang that chorus for a long time and then we started writing the verses and every time we would get to the chorus, we had to stop because we we’ re going to start crying again and yet we must actually, finish the song.
