Our latest acoustic / electric guitar for review is the new Cort Core-MC Ovangkol acoustic / electric. As many of our readers and players have noticed Cort has been pushing the boundaries of quality and playability versus budget in recent years. The Cort Core-MC Ovangkol has features we don’ t typically find in an acoustic / electric costing less than $ 1,000. Right out of the box, the semi-gloss solid cedar top almost appears flat black in the lighting. The MC in the name represents the body shape which is Modern Concert giving it a tighter waist and a soft slopped cutaway. The back and sides of this Cort Core are created from solid Ovangkol wood, which is a beautiful and toneful, topical hardwood. The rosewood fingerboard has no fret markers on the top, but it does have side dot fret positioners for key identification.
