the neck with a little wider neck. I was going from acoustic to electric and the original Ebony neck was a little on the thin side. So, it’ s a little wider and it just feels perfect. That’ s what I use most of the time now. And Kenny Marshall, I put his name on the headstock because Zion guitars don’ t exist anymore, but Kenny’ s still making guitars and I wanted to honor him with his actual logo on the headstock of the Zion.
[ WM ] That’ s on the cover of your new Super Sessions album too?
[ Phil ] That’ s a great sounding guitar. And for all you guitar geeks out there, it’ s got two pickups, two humbuckers, and it’ s got two switches. You can have either pickup or both pickups in a single coil( or) parallel series or full humbucker. So, it has a great range of tone. It doesn’ t have that nasally in between that you get on a Strat with three pickups, but I don’ t really need that. I mean, that’ s okay for some sort of songs, but for the most part, I just love using either pickups. Now on the Super Sessions album, I’ m all over the place on that guitar. I’ m playing through a Supro amp and my pedalboard.
[ WM ] Wow! Tell us about your pedal board?
[ Phil ] Well, there’ s a Line 6 DL4. This RYRA pedal, it’ s called the Klone, I think. And I’ ve got a Cali 76 compressor, this Keeley V a T( Reverb and Tremolo), a Boss Octaver OC-2( if I need it) and the Boss Dimension C, along with a volume pedal. Now that’ s my basic set that I’ ll use for electric.
