When we were kids , if you asked someone to name a truck , they ’ d probably only list Ford and Chevy . In the land of lighting , there are two or three names that come to mind that quickly as well . No need to list them . XBlack is most definitely a contender and in many ways , stands alone ! Jayme and his team developed these lights first for the Scotty McCreery show . Scotty wanted to ramp up his show visually without spending a ton of money . This prompted Jayme to find a factory that would build what they were looking for . After the response they received from these custom fixtures , XBlack was born and launched in 2018 . In fact , Jayme grew up as a pastor ’ s kid and was in the same church situations I experienced , so he understands what the church needs and how church budgets work ! Communicating with XBlack for technical support or warranty help is as easy as calling Nashville .
I just received a shipment of four XB350 Hybrid Fixtures . These are brand new offerings from XBlack and I really didn ’ t know what to expect . I ’ ve ordered lights before that were disappointing after they arrived . Not the case with these XB350 ’ s . Check my video to see them sitting side-by-side with the ( 560 ) lights I ’ m replacing . These are legit .
Out of the box , I could feel the quality . The easy-to-read , color screen ( automatically flips when hung … bonus !), the locking power con , even the coated safety cable was better quality than lights I have at the same or higher price point . One of my favorite features of the fixture itself is the on-board hanging hardware . Every other light we own at church requires add-on hardware to hang . Think about it , every addon costs more money . This light can do the job of 20 of the cheap lights I ’ ve purchased at other churches … add in the cost of all the DMX cable , the hanging hardware , and the time to setup and configure and this XB350 is shining bright !
Here are some specs … I can choose 25 or 36 DMX channels . I ’ ve set them up at 25 to start . The lights can run on a 110v or 220v power source and have a 350W white LED light to push a color temp of 7500K with 20,000- hour life . They have full pan and tilt with auto repositioning and the fixture ’ s movement is notably quiet . On board there is an 8-color wheel (+ white ) with CMY color mixing and linear CTO ( 2700K-7500K ). There are two gobo wheels … one rotating wheel with 7-interchangeable gobo + open and one fixed wheel with 10 fixed + open gobo . A 5-facet circular prism and 5-facet linear prism , motorized focus , 3-48 degree zoom , strobe and frost round out most of the options . This is a hybrid fixture , so it can be equally useful upstage or downstage for use as spot or wash lighting .
I ’ ve used a number of intelligent lights in the past and they all have seemed to have very similar gobo wheels . I am finding these gobo options to be unique , and the 5-facet prism expands nicely in the room . Check out the video where I show only the four XB350 ’ s .
