Bethel ’ s “ The Blood ” is just marvelous . Has that particular tune been a part of your worship repertoire for a while ?
[ Jessie-Rose ] In terms ? Absolutely . I think initially we heard it when it first came out and felt there was something on it , but I think our church and our band brings a bit of a different sound and a different approach to it . When we introduced it to the church , it was like the lyrical content was incredible , plus our little KCW zing added to it . And then yeah , it had been in a Sunday rotation during our services , so on our recording night when we were recording our own singles , we wanted to incorporate a few songs outside of our KCW repertoire . We weren ’ t actually intending on recording “ The Blood ” or even releasing it , but everything from that night was recorded . And yeah , I guess after we finished we were like , “ There ’ s something really special on this and I think we need to release it into the world ”. I think that because we weren ’ t planning to record it meant that we almost captured the actual essence of what sometimes happens in a room . The pressure was off , we ’ d done the important song , the album songs , and so everyone was just having fun and it was good .
“ The Blood ”
It was a Scottish man called Ian White . And the last song was , “ There Is a Louder Shout To Come ” from Matt Redman . I had never heard anything like that . The presence of God accompanied it , and that ’ s not something you can buy or even you can do everything in the world to plan for it , but when it happens , that ’ s the important thing . Right ?
[ Jessie-Rose ] Absolutely . I think that really is what provoked us to release “ The Blood ”, even though there was no intention . I think we got off the stage after that night and I remember us kind of looking at each other and being like , “ Something happened in that ”. I wonder if we can dig up the recording . It might be pretty rough , but I think it ’ s worth putting in the effort to try and capture and more broadly release what it felt like in the room .
[ WM ] That ’ s how I felt when I heard your recording of it . I thought , “ Okay , this is in that other category ”. So , well done . Let ’ s discuss your song , “ Highest Praise ”. It ’ s in 12 / 8 time . You seamlessly transition from 12 / 8 to triplet
We hadn ’ t even necessarily planned a proper arrangement for it because it was something that had been done so much in our community . So even if you look at the live video of the recording , you can see a lot of looking around the stage and hand signals and things like that because we didn ’ t necessarily play much of it . It was just all kind of instinct in the moment .
[ WM ] Well , it ’ s all about His presence . It doesn ’ t matter how if the song is the greatest recording in the world . It still gets down to His presence . It really does . And I remember when I was at EMI , which is now Capitol Christian , this cassette tape came into me from the U . K . It was called Worship Together 4 . I had been involved for years with Maranatha Music and Vineyard Music . But I heard this little tape and I listened to the first side . And then I put on side two and I was on my face in my office weeping .
