The D-18 Martin Dreadnaught Acoustic Guitar is an industry standard for a reason , it delivers . Certainly , a number of stars in every style of music have played D-18s but they are also a go to instrument for session musicians and of course worship musicians .
The D-18 is not known for looking fancy or showy , but the tone is immediately recognizable . Martin ’ s latest edition to this line is the D-18 Satin finish model available in Natural with Aging Toner Top or Amberburst finishes . I had the chance to play this newly updated guitar at the NAMM show in Anaheim , CA this year . But , getting to spend some time with it and play it with the Praise team opened my eyes and ears .
The standard D-18 features on the new Satin finish acoustics include a solid Spruce top , solid Mahogany back , sides and neck , ebony fingerboard , and Modified Low Oval slim neck . The 1 and ¾ ” nut width is easy to navigate , and the open back Grover machine heads fit the look perfectly .
The Ultra-thin Satin finish isn ’ t just on the top , it is also applied to the neck , sides and back of the body so there aren ’ t really any shiny areas other than the tuners on the headstock . The Satin finish provides this D-18 with a played in or more vintage look akin to an instrument that has been well played and loved for many years . The Amberburst finish took a bit of getting used to visually since most Martin acoustic guitars
