any time . If they feel like they are a good fit , then our associate worship team pastor and me spend much of our energy not only investing in their musicianship , but also in our relationship with them . As I said before , creating powerful worship moments on stage comes down to the trust you have in each other as a team . We work hard on building that repoire with our team members through hangouts , team nights , casual lunches , and training sessions so that our team members feel valued and inspired to bring their best every time they play .
[ WM ] What would you like to say to our readers that are fellow worship guitar players ?
[ Jeffrey ] Grab on to a mentor ! So many guitarists get stuck and stalled out with their playing being ‘ self-taught ’. The most important thing you can do for yourself is find a mentor , someone who is better than you , who is living the life or playing the guitar the way that you wish you could , and grab onto them for dear life . I wouldn ’ t be where I was if I had to figure it out for myself . It ’ s only because of my mentors like Brian Johnson , Jeremy Edwardson ( producer of Jesus Culture , Bethel Music , Kari Jobe , Chris Tomlin , and more ) that I ’ m able to write , play , and record the way I can today at a professional level .
[ WM ] Any words of advice for other worship pastors ?
[ Jeffrey ] Be clear with the standards you want to set for your team . Remember that you are in charge of setting the culture , not your team . Set clear expectations for your team , and then pour into them with your time and relationship building strategies so that they want to exceed your expectations .
[ WM ] Wow – really good answers today Jeffrey – thank you !
