pedals I ’ m loving from Shnobel Tone ’ s arsenal : the ‘ Optical Compressor ’ and the ‘ Daily Driver ’. Both are quality pedals and a great take on classic effects , and they both will be on my next pedal board build for sure . I ’ m also enjoying the Jackson Audio ‘ New Wave ’ chorus pedal for those classic 80 ’ s tones , as well as the ‘ Lore ’ from Walrus Audio - a super fun and “ weird ” pedal to check out .
[ WM ] Is there a piece of gear out there that you would like to add to your tool belt ?
[ Jeffrey ] If someone could send a vintage Les Paul my way , that would be very much appreciated . I ’ ve never owned one and I feel incomplete without one .
[ WM ] There is a new Jesus Culture album by Bryan and Katie Torwalt that you played on with Cory Pierce . How do you approach a project like this with two very capable guitar players ? What kinds of discussions follow with “ who plays what , and when ?”
[ Jeffrey ] Playing with Cory was great ! It was the first time we had met , I felt like we complimented each other very well in a working environment . We had an extremely limited amount of time to practice together as a band for this recording , so the communication and decision making between us had to be quick and laser focused . Before each song we would quickly decide who was playing lead or rhythm ( we divided it up about evenly throughout the record ). From there , the lead player would take more creative liberties while the rhythm player would try and focus on complimenting the lead lines - either by doubling the line , adding a harmony , playing a complimentary rhythmic line , or playing simple rhythm chorded parts . Cory was a true pro , learned and wrote parts quickly , and had a great sense of tone . Live and in the moment , he was also great at coming up with tasteful spontaneous parts . It was a pleasure to play with him and I hope to again
