WHERE IS MY CALLING ? | Ted Saul
Is your calling in a worship ministry , a touring ministry or making a lifetime career in Christian music ? You may already know the answer to this question . If you ’ re not sure , each general area we will talk about offers many opportunities requiring different giftings , skills and talents .
Leading or being part of a worship team is typically found in the church environment , though there are exceptions . The style of music is up to the church and you , but the work needed to keep a high level of excellence is similar . There are many areas to participate whether you have musical skills or not .
The touring ministry consists of bands , choirs and ensembles that have been called to take their ministry on the road . The level of expertise and ability required will be higher since the artists provides a performance for which the audience has purchased a ticket . They will expect a good presentation for their money .
Lastly , there is career work . Just as God can call someone to be a truck driver , computer person , nurse or any other secular vocation , he can call someone to earn a living in the Christian music industry , making it as much a ministry as any of the other career paths . It should be noted that worship and touring , have the potential of becoming a lifework financially supporting you and your family . You can be a full-time worship leader where your sole support comes from being employed at a church . The same goes for the touring artist and supporting jobs .
Let ’ s look at three aspects - worship ministry , touring ministry and Christian music as a career - and discuss specific roles involved in each of the three areas . After exploring the three , we move to comparing individual roles that will fit into each category and how the training and experience may be different . For example , what is the difference between a sound engineer in the church worship experience and one who travels with a tour and one who is hired by a studio ? Here ’ s an overview of the three .
WORSHIP MINISTRY The worship ministry plays a key role in the church , and those who understand this also know why proper leadership is necessary . Worship can bring the heart of the believer to a point where they are ready to receive the message from the pastor . Worship can bring the suffering believer back in focus with God to hear the Word of God . Worship can even bring the nonbeliever to a place where God becomes real to them . They see all these people in the service singing with passion and want to know
