The C. F. Martin guitar company is known for the artists it aligns with to create signature models. So, it comes as no surprise that the company has brought back the Martin 00DB Jeff Tweedy Acoustic model due to demand. They have also released a more affordable Martin 000 Jr E Jeff Tweedy Acoustic / Electric, but WM will be focused on the 00DB guitar. If you aren’ t aware of Jeff Tweedy, he is a New York times bestselling author and an incredibly influential singer and songwriter that is best known for cofounding the bands Wilco, Uncle Tupelo and Tweedy band.
From a Nashville, TN point of view, Tweedy is most acknowledged here as a prolific songwriter for the hundreds he has penned and continues to create and release. A number of things jump out to you about the Tweedy Martin 00DB acoustic as soon as you rescue it from the Martin deluxe hardcase. The Tweedy burst finish is beautiful on the top and the dark mahogany sides and back appear almost 3-dimensional in the light. This is a smaller 14- fret Martin body, but what sets this apart from other acoustics is that it is a deep body!
Another big take away on this model is that it has a hefty nut width of 1 ¾” at the headstock but it doesn’ t feel that large in your hands thanks to the modified V shape and standard taper up the neck. The Jeff Tweedy 00DB Martin takes visual cues from Martin’ s past historic instruments with the vintage style rosette, butterbean tuners and tortoise binding. Jeff’ s influences shine through on the body depth, finish choices, neck playability and FSC( Forest Stewardship Council) woods used throughout. Sound wise the Tweedy Martin isn’ t what I expected at all from an all-Mahogany crafted guitar. And my
