knowledge. My first impression was,“ Wow, this thing is loud.” And that was with the Reactor wattage selector at 1W instead of the 25W or max 50W of the review model( also available in 100W). Then, like any guitarist, I started turning knobs to see what sounds I could achieve, and I was incredibly impressed by the depth and warmth of the Reactor. The defining difference for me with the Reactor, compared to past digital-friendly amplifiers, is that it sounded closer to the way my tube amps breathe and react to a guitar and how you play.
Now let’ s discuss the features of the Reactor 50W amplifier. The top panel of the Reactor amp provides an extensive amount of usable tone options: six onboard amp selector, two mini toggle switches for fine tuning, a 3-band
EQ, onboard effects, and a tuner. Any player who has utilized a traditional amplifier previously will find no challenges with the Reactor Amp as a stand-alone combo.
Next up, I downloaded the Reactor App and paired it with the amp. The App asks you a couple of tone questions, then it creates a starting point for you with a virtual amp and effects that you can start adjusting to your exact sound. The three tabs at the bottom of the Reactor App are Tone, Creator Hub, and ToneCloud. Tone is the current amp and effects that you are working on now with effects pedal at the top and 3-band EQ, gain, and master controls on the lower 3rd. First the App asks you two questions. What kind of tone and sound do you want? Then it creates the sound of the amp with effects in line, also.
The Creator Hub has a tutorial at the top, and then it allows you to create sounds by either describing it, using a photo, using a song, or fix my tone. I went with a photo and took a picture of my dad’ s road-worn 1959 Fender Bassman. From this, it provided three generated tone options from my image. One was clean, one was dirty, and the third was more modern with added effects. Although it didn’ t match a 67-year-old tube amp exactly, it did get pretty close, especially considering that it was reproducing the sound through a 1 x 12 speaker instead of 4 x 10 Jensens. The ToneCloud section of the App provides a
