I ’ ve noticed that the most prominent guitar companies seem to delve into building guitar amps . When I think of Yamaha , Fender , Gibson , and even Taylor , they all make amplifiers . It makes sense that you want the perfect matchup to your guitar for a true win-win . PRS has been building amps for quite a while now . They again joined with guitarist David Grissom to develop a sweet classic 15-watt combo amp . It ’ s a followup on his DG Custom 30 , which he did with designer Doug Sewell . The DGT15 combines the best of the DGT Custom 30 in a low-watt version , adding some unique features like Tremolo and a multi-function footswitch .
OUT OF THE BOX : The DGT 15 ships in heavy-duty boxes with Styrofoam inserts . There is a user ’ s manual and a safety instruction booklet in fourteen languages ! The amp head is covered in blonde tolex and weighs about twenty-one pounds . The 1X12 matching cabinet is twenty-seven pounds , and a matching ‘ salt and pepper ’ grill cloth complements both . Both have hand-friendly thick leather handles and nice , sturdy rubber feet . The cabinet is what I ’ d call a semi-open back with protective grill cloth front and back . The speaker is an 8 OHM 12-inch Gold Celestion Vintage capable of handling a max power of 60 watts . Also included are an IEC Power cord , a large three-button remote foot switch with indicator LEDs , and a MIDI-Type cable for the foot switch , approximately 18 feet long .
On top of the head is an attached quick start guide card showing two suggested settings , an explanation of the front panel controls , and a QR code for more info . On the front panel is a single input jack , ten knobs , a power switch with LED indicator , and four mini-option switches relating to the remote footswitch . The front panel has a Volume control that controls the volume of the preamp section . Next is a three-knob tone stack EQ with Treble , Mid , and Bass . Following that is the Master Volume , followed by a three- Spring Reverb . There is a unique Top-Cut circuit to eliminate unwanted , painful high-end .
The Presence control affects the very top of the treble spectrum . The Presence circuit will affect your clarity for clean chime tones and the ability of your distorted tones to cut through a mix . Lastly , you have the classic power-tube-bias Tremolo circuit with knobs for Speed and Depth . There are four three-way Mini switches . The first is a mini-Boost switch under the Volume knob , which can be set to On , Off , or On via the foot switch . Underneath the Mid knob is a three-way mini-Bright switch which can also be set to on , off , or on via the foot switch . Under the Master knob is another 3-way mini-switch
