Pedals are to guitar players like tools for a mechanic … wait , no ! They are more like brushes for a painter ! They assist , they enhance , they color . A handful of companies have been on the leading edge of development and quality in guitar pedals and , for most guitar players that I know , one of the first to come to mind is Strymon .
When my friend at Strymon reached out to see if I ’ d be up to reviewing a yet-to-be-released pedal it was kind of a no-brainer . Of course , I would ! Or more like , “ we ” would as my son , Sam , has a fast-filling-up , Strymon pedal board . He quickly sent me the pre-release information on the Brig … their new dBucket Delay pedal .
Out of the box , the Brig feels and looks like a Strymon with their classic aluminum housing , look , and design . I love the simplicity and the fact that once you have one Strymon , there is a high level of familiarity when you add another . The Brig is a dBucket Delay with controls for Time , Voice , Mix , Filter , Repeats , and Mod .
It ’ s important to understand that the Brig has three distinct delay voices ( 3205 , 3005 , and Multi ). These are switchable with the Voice micro-switch at the top center of the pedal and these three selections emulate the effect of the 1980 ’ s BBD or Bucket Brigade chips . The BBD chips were aptly named after a bucket brigade of fireman passing water buckets down a line
