custom audiophile cable division called Zaolla Silverline with solid Silver components and best-in-class USA manufacturing .
IN USE : It was time to upgrade the pedals on my fly board and a perfect opportunity to test these Hosa Patch cables . Hosa makes seven different Patch Cable versions . The top-line “ Edge ” patch cables Neutrik are heavy-duty , with Right-angle jacks and Gold plated plugs . Edge Patch cables are suitable for pedals with connectors on the back , but this board mostly has side jacks . Therefore I chose the HOSA “ Pro “ Patch Cables with Neutrik REAN square jacks . They are very low profile and a jack of choice , trusted by many pro pedalboard builders .
The backs of the connectors are coated Black with a white HOSA logo . The REAN jacks are Nickel plated and very durable . The Pro-Patch cable I used is a 20-gauge Oxygen-Free- Copper ( OFC ), and the braided Shield is 90 % OFC as well .
Compared to the Edge series , the cable is slightly smaller , more pliable , and perfect for tight pedal placement . After deciding how many patch cables I needed , I put this board together to take to a conference in Colorado . It took less than an hour . I ’ ve historically been a fan of custom solderless cables . They are convenient . But there ’ s a great feeling to never worry that connectors might come loose or have a grounding issue . This build was speedy . No cutting or soldering . The square patch cables were perfect since this board doesn ’ t use a switcher . I got an additional , road worthy 15-foot Hosa Edge cable for the guitar . It ’ s very low capacitance , 20 Gauge Oxygen-Free Copper , and is perfect for the clear , clean Strat tone when I need it . Also got two Hosa Pro 15 ’ to reach 2 stage DIs .
FLYING WITH A PEDALBOARD : Flying a pedalboard is always risky . It will get thrown around . TSA might open it and put it back together incorrectly . FYI : I place a sheet of paper with a large picture of my TX driver ’ s license and a nice note on the pedals . It says , “ Dear TSA , thank you for all you do ! My name is Michael Hodge , My address and Cell ; I ’ m a local 47 Studio Musician . This is my Guitar Pedalboard - All professional audio . No Batteries . Please don ’ t tear it apart ! God Bless you !”
MY TAKEAWAY : I ’ m very impressed with these cables . The Edge guitar cables remind me of Mogami , but they are more robust and will likely hold up better on the road with the Neutrik connectors . Edge also has a 95 % OFC Braid .
The Hosa Pro Guitar cable is a little more costeffective and still has a 90 % OFC braid with Neutrik ’ s REAN connectors . They both have hefty 20 AWG oxygen-free copper conductor wire .
For a pedalboard , I lean toward the Pro Patch cables . They are very low profile , and the cable is more flexible for a tight fit . When I tested the pedalboard , it was noticeably quieter than before . I ’ m confident that it will survive any abuse when flying . Later when I have time , I can easily take any of these cables and solder them to custom lengths . They work perfectly now , so don ’ t hold me to it .
I recommend both these guitar cables and patch cables . They have exceeded my expectations , and my pedalboard has never sounded cleaner . I have less hum and noise than the previous solderless patch cables I used .
The Pro-Patch cables run $ 13.95 - $ 14.95 each . This price is less than the connectors usually cost themselves on eBay , and they are professionally soldered . Great price , great cables !
