CODY CARNES Bless God ( Firm Foundation Pre-Release EP )
ELEVATION WORSHIP Can You Imagine 1 . Bless God 2 . Plead The Blood 3 . The Dove 4 . Call On The Name 5 . Who Is This Man ?
Cody Carnes has been blessing the church with relevant , God-honoring worship since way back in 2009 . Songs like “ Run To The Father ”, “ Nothing Else ” and of course , “ The Blessing ” have made Cody Carnes a regular name in Sunday morning set lists . Carnes ’ latest release is a 5 song EP in anticipation of his much anticipated album , Firm Foundation , which drops on August 25 .
The EP begins with the title track which is a piano-laden ballad about how we are called to Bless God in all circumstances because we know that ultimately our trials only linger for a short while . The chorus is overflowing with easy-to-sing hooks that will get stuck in your heart and head after the first listen .
“ Plead The Blood ” has a bit of a haunting feel with the over saturation of reverb and delay on the drums , guitars and pianos as Carnes confidently declares that the name and blood of Jesus protects every child of God from the threats of the evil one . The bridge is declarative
as Carnes confidently shouts ; “‘ Cause my future is glory to glory and my freedom ’ s been purchased in full . For all of the weight of his suffering , the Lamb will receive his reward ”.
Carnes ’ feathery tenor shines on the humble and intimate prayer , “ The Dove ” while “ Call On The Name ” extols the power of the name of Jesus whose love finds sinners right where they are while giving undeserved new life .
“ Who Is This Man ?” brings an element of mystery and awe as Carnes sings about the perfect combination of divinity and humanity of Jesus from his disciples perspective . It is a fresh and creative way to return ourselves to the amazing and powerful identity of Christ that we so often take for granted . I am not sure I needed almost 10 minutes of the song ( it gets overly repetitive by the middle of the song ) but still a great effort .
Each of these five songs absolutely hit the mark for me . Creative , well thought out biblical writing with out-of-the-box song structures and interesting arrangements abound in this little EP . This is a perfect way to get your fan base ( and the church in general ) excited about an upcoming album . I can ’ t wait to hear more .
