I am going to make a bold prediction here . This new Casio Privia PX-S7000 will be the most awarded keyboard in the last 10 years . Why , you ask ? Modern magazines from all different aspects of life will pick this as “ Keyboard of the Year ”. Everything from Audiophile magazines , Keyboard magazines , Home Décor magazines , Wood Working magazines and Technical Design magazines will rave about the barriers Casio broke making this product . The designers at IKEA Furniture will cringe when they see how well the wood-grained keyboard stand itself is made . It is the sturdiest stand on the planet yet fits in nicely with the graceful overall package . Even the manual to build the stand was well written and useful . Really !
The controls layout feels more Apple iPhone sleek than electronic digital piano .
So , for our test drive , I took the large cardboard shipping box the PX-S7000 comes in over to my worship leader Brian ’ s house and we built the impressive stand together . It did take two of us 45 minutes to make , but it was a fun 45 minutes .
Next , we ran through every sound the Privia offered . So many “ meat and potatoes ” usable patches . And then we went through the percussive drums sounds and the demo songs onboard that prove how stunning the fourspeaker sound system is .
I left the Casio at Brian ’ s house because he is a “ real ” piano player and I grew up on synths , so I wanted to get his take on it … yes , the old “ take the puppy home ” routine .
Here are Brian ’ s thoughts . ----- For years , my preference has been to play acoustic pianos . Even the most advanced
of digital keyboards have left me wanting . I prefer the sound and feel of an acoustic piano – the vibrations that come from an actual soundboard , and the action of acoustic keys . When I was introduced to the Casio Privia , I was quite skeptical . I was certain no keyboard could change my mind .
It begins with the keyboard action . I have never played a keyboard with such incredible action . The weighted wood 88 keys are amazing . Even the feeling of the simulated ebony and ivory creates confidence . The design gives credibility to the product within the first few moments of playing . In addition to the physical structure , an electronic touch sensitivity feature means each pianist can create the exact instrument they prefer .
Once you get beyond the keyboard action , you are provided with a sound that seems unique to this keyboard . It ’ s all around you . Just like an acoustic piano , the sound of higher-range tones seems to be produced from the upper end of the keyboard . When you play those beautiful rich bass notes , they seem to come from
