He turns to a sister and says , “ When I run , I feel God ’ s pleasure .” plugin , or a new batch of songs or project or something ? inspiration and approaching things in a new way .
And so it ’ s funny because if you look at his whole life , he probably impacted more people for God just from his running than he would ’ ve if he ’ d gone off and done the whole missionary thing . I look at that story all the time and go , he feels God ’ s pleasure when he is running , which doesn ’ t seem very spiritual , but that ’ s what God put in him .
He obviously honored God with it if you know the full story , the whole Chariots Of Fire story . And so I apply that to me . I ’ m like , well , is music spiritual ? Is making sounds spiritual ? If it ’ s what God ’ s called you to do , then one hundred percent , yes . We shouldn ’ t box God into “ this is Christian ” or “ this is not .” He ’ s bigger than that .
And so , yeah , if you feel God ’ s pleasure when you ’ re doing something , that ’ s a very big indicator that it ’ s what God ’ s put in you and what He wants you to do .

[ Mike Graff ] Is there anything in the worship world , the production world sound design world that you are currently geeking out about right now ? Like some piece of gear or a new
[ Aaron Robertson ] I just got a Mellotron .
[ Mike ] You did ! I saw it on socials and got really excited for you .
[ Aaron ] It was an , “ I shouldn ’ t do this .” That ’ s how it all started . A friend of mine , Austin Davis , we were talking about a song and he ’ s like , “ Just go get a Mellotron .” I was like , “ Okay , I ’ ll just buy a Mellotron .” ( laughs ) It ’ s not a cheap piece of gear . And I was not in the mood to buy anything or spend a bunch of money on music stuff right then .
But I couldn ’ t stop thinking about it for like a month straight , and I like to hunt down deals . So I was everywhere online , trying to find it , talking to people that were about to move from Texas to Charlotte that lived close to this one guy on eBay that maybe he could pick it up and bring it for a better price . All this stuff .
I just couldn ’ t stop thinking about it . And eventually I was jumping into this latest project . I was like , this is going to be for this project . And it ’ s gonna set a tone for what I creatively do for this . It wasn ’ t like constant Mellotron throughout the whole album , but it was just
It ’ s a pretty simple piece of gear but it … it feels . And it created some really special ideas and moments . So I ’ m kind of geeking out on the Mellotron right now . It ’ s more versatile than I think people realize .
And at first I definitely was like , okay , it ’ s like old sounding strings and flutes . But the depth of it and tuning things up and down and the pitch shifting and blending all the different sounds and then using those with pedals , it ’ s just … it ’ s crazy . Very organic and earthy and it kind of “ breathes ”. It ’ s interesting . So that ’ s the latest thing I ’ m , gear wise , kind of geeking out about . And it looks cool !
[ Mike ] It ’ s nearly impossible to walk away from listening to these folks ’ stories and not be inspired to take action , step out in faith , and move in what God has called you to do . It ’ s amazing to hear what these leaders ( who inspire many ) are inspired by . I have no doubt the next leaders to come up into this field are those who are learning from these very same people , all for the purpose of furthering the heart of worship and the worldwide Church . And there ’ s even more great interviews to come – you ’ re not gonna want to miss any of them !
