[ WM ] You sell a lot of keyboards online and I can image it is easy to ship most keyboards out from your large warehouse, but Kraft Music also ships pianos safely and securely everyday throughout the country. Tell us about that and how much does it cost to ship a piano Overnight on FedEx? Ha!
[ Ben ] Don’ t ask! Seriously, a digital piano, at 100, or 200, or 300 + lbs. is not your normal Amazon trinket delivery! But you’ re right … we pride ourselves in our warehouse and logistics skills and have shipped digital pianos of all sizes( portable, console, hybrid, and grand) all over the country. We’ ve shipped to the busiest streets of New York, to remote locations in the Midwest, and recently we had a first where we shipped a Kawai digital grand piano to a church in Petersburg, Alaska by way of a ferry from Washington state. There are very few places in these United States where we haven’ t delivered a piano.
[ WM ] Your online gallery has become the industry leader in providing unique and detailed content for your digital pianos but Kraft Music’ s physical gallery location is possibly the only place in the country that you can actually see all of these brands under one roof and offers an‘ appointment only’ opportunity for customers in the local area and many who come from far away for this experience.
Tell us about how Kraft Music uses this large building space to house your retail show room, make your original photo and video content, stock your inventory in the warehouse as well as provide space for your shipping department?
[ Ben ] 99 % of our customers are more than 100 miles away from us, so our Gallery was created first as a way for us to provide details, recordings, and images to our customers by way of the web, YouTube, Instagram, etc. You can shop kraftmusic. com / collections / thegallery and see and hear pianos in ways that will be unique and educational. See a piano in a real room, for instance. And watch quality recordings that give you an idea of the tone. That is how the majority of our customers will experience our Gallery. Choose online, and we’ ll ship it right to you from our warehouse.
Now, in setting up so many pianos, we realized that we had just created not only a special“ studio” for content, but likely the most comprehensive showroom for digital pianos that exists in the U. S. Heck, you can’ t even go to the NAMM Show and see this variety of digital pianos!
So in between content creation, we open up The Gallery for appointments for those who desire to put their hands on the instrument before making a decision. And because you can see just about everything that is available in one visit, it’ s become a super worthwhile destination. While our location in Franklin, Wisconsin is minutes from Milwaukee, or an hour or so from Chicago, we really are only two to four hours away by air from wherever you are. Some customers find that a $ 300 plane ticket is pretty reasonable when you’ re trying to decide on a $ 6,000 to $ 10,000( or more) instrument that you’ re going to live with for years. [ WM ] Another thing I like about you is that even though you are so focused on the“ black and white” keys products, you are a board member for the non-profit“ Guitars for Vets” organization. Tell us about your involvement?
[ Ben ] Guitars for Vets was founded here in Milwaukee back in 2007 by a Vietnam veteran and a guitar instructor( who is a customer, and taught at one of my Dad’ s stores many years ago). The idea is to share the healing power of music to our veterans, particularly to help those suffering from PTSD and other servicerelated trauma. It’ s a wonderful program, and all of us who are musicians can instantly see how it could work, right? Think about how music transforms each of us! I know I’ m not alone, and when I’ m learning, performing, or practicing music, I’ m in a different world. That’ s the idea here. A veteran who enters the program is matched to a volunteer instructor who then teaches them a 10-12 week course. At the end of that, the veteran is awarded their very own guitar.
When I learned about the program, I asked how I could help. Guitars for Vets now has 160 + chapters around the U. S., and the organization needs to ship guitars to program graduates in all 50 states. They are a healing company, not a logistics company, and I said,“ Hey, we can do that part for you!” So, Kraft Music has been providing a big chunk of the logistics in getting those guitars into the hands of our heroes. It’ s a wonderful thing for our team to see a big load of guitars getting ready to be shipped to our brothers and sisters who have done so much for us.
