crunch stuff , I backed off the tone knob some on the bridge pickup . I was able to get all the tones needed for modern worship music . I got numerous comments at church about how cool it looked and sounded . The details of pickups , knobs , and switches make it interesting for the camera guys .
The neck pickup has a good level , is clear , and not too much bass . I especially liked the middle position . It ’ s that beautiful , sweet , chimey sound you can ’ t get on a Strat . It ’ s balanced and has that lovely mid-scoop thing .
Above the pickups is the warmer , darkersounding rhythm circuit , with a slider switch to engage , and two little tone wheel knobs . It ’ s a dual-circuit design with separate volume and tone controls . This classic offset Jazz-style * circuit makes dialing in preset rhythm and lead sounds easy . These were always a mystery to me , and I ’ m just now finding out how they work . That circuit defines the Jazzmaster name . It ’ s perfect for playing classic jazz and very useful to quickly go from clean to a super hi-gain tone .
The Halon Trem system stays in tune , partly thanks to the locking tuners . The bridge is solid with nice brass saddles . I suggest using an angled jack guitar cable . I always run the cable above and around the strap button to protect the guitar jack .
MY TAKEAWAY : The Doubleday Thrasher is a well-made handcrafted guitar . It plays great , stays in tune , and looks fantastic on stage . The neck is flawless . The middle pickup select sound is terrific . I was able to cover both chimey clean and rock tones at church , too . It ’ s got the Fender-like thing and the Les Paul vibe in one guitar . The Trem is excellent and stays in tune . This guitar is full of cool vibes . It could be a solid choice as a primary guitar . Walker Doubleday is a nice guy too . He makes all kinds of custom guitars .
