currently available in two metallic finishes , Canyon Dusk and Shoreline Mist ( as tested ). The pickups are modeled from Guild ’ s highly sought after vintage HB-1 pickups . The appeal of this guitar is that it is a quality sounding and built instrument at an affordable price that will work well for both intermediate and pro-level players . This is not a beginners instrument by any means .
The neck profile and finish would make it perfect for a musician looking to add an electric to the fold . I wasn ’ t certain if the Guild Rocker pickup selectors would work well for me , but they did and they were easy to engage while playing . The narrow jumbo frets made chords and soloing comfortable also , while not giving up intonation . Many musicians , including myself , usually prefer an electric guitar to be equipped with a tremolo , but then we seldom use the tremolo and give up longer sustain with one installed .
The staggered string through body connection looks classy and adds to the tone of the guitar . The 25.5 ’ scale length neck provides less tension with the strings too .
At a street price of $ 499 and the inclusion of a Guild embroidered gig bag the Guild Surfliner HH is a great way to add an electric guitar into the Praise or Youth group at an affordable price . It is one of those guitars that has the vintage vibe that appeals to mature musicians but is off the beaten path enough to attract younger players . There aren ’ t many electric guitars in this mid-price range that have so many features in a unique , yet not over the top guitar design .
The Guild Surfliner HH electric guitars are a nice way to ease into the electric guitar arena without breaking the bank , all the while retaining player features !
