whole image of this man who was from a poor family . He lived in a trailer , who didn ' t have much himself , and was just really struggling in life , and going through all these really , hard things . And then , he passes by all these people and this homeless man on the side of the road , and how he had no money and he was homeless in the past . You see a little boy laying in the field by himself alone . He passes by him and sees the truck broken down , but he doesn ' t come and help him .
And then , he passes by this church that he grew up in , and this church was the Sunday sermon . This is the church that he grew up in , but he lost his way , and he was turning away from God , but he remembered all those Sunday sermons and that ' s what made him turn around and go back to the homeless man and the little boy to help them at the end of the music video . I remember just thinking about that same thing as we were cleaning up the music video and thinking of ideas .
I just really wanted to capture the heart behind what it ' s like when you don ' t have a lot of yourself to give to other people . A lot of the heart of the gospel is loving another and loving your neighbor , and , giving to others if you don ' t have anything yourself . I think that ' s really powerful , and so I ' m really grateful for the way that it turned out and it ' s amazing to see the way that it ' s been impacting people .
[ WM ] Anne , it ' s a really brilliant video . The storyline and the impact , I mean , it really got to me . It wasn ' t just a music video . It preached a sermon right there , and so well done .
[ Anne ] Awesome .
[ WM ] Your new project releases next week . It ’ s titled My Jesus , after the song , and it ’ s a fulllength project . What can you tell us about it ?
[ Anne ] I ' m so excited . I ' ve spent two and a half years writing over a 130 songs and recording . That ' s a lot of songs when you ' re songwriting , and especially because I have never written
songs before . I wrote my first song in April of 2019 and that was it . So , I started writing the past two and a half years … a lot of songs , a lot of stories , a lot of testimonies , a lot of walking through life and writing songs about it . So , these songs are very special to me .
There are 14 songs on the record , and each of them have a lot of meaning and value . These songs were taken from the pages of my journals and literally from the worst stages of my life when I was walking and praying in pain , suffering with losing my brother . A lot these songs speak to that . I remember thinking , " Don ' t go home stressed ", And , I remember thinking about the whole concept of loss , pain , and whatever .
We ' re talking about what do we want to title the record , and we eventually decided on My Jesus . I remember thinking , " Oh , well , this is just going to be called My Jesus . But , I remember just having a moment with the Word and realizing that no , the deal is Jesus .
All of these songs have just come out of the fact that I have a personal relationship with the Lord and I call Him , my Jesus . And so , all of these songs are under the category of having a relationship with the Lord and growing in that and walking through hard things . Each of these songs speak to different types of people and different walks of life . There are some songs on this record that are specifically for people walking through grief and loss .
There are some songs on this record that are for people who are at different stages of their life , and maybe they just need some more hope and encouragement . There ' s also a couple of
Hey Girl country songs on this record , but I wanted all the Jesus songs to be to the country audience for the Lord and to speak life , and truth , and the Gospel to them as well . A lot of really beautiful songs on this record , and I ' m very excited .
[ WM ] I love it . Anne , you ' re mature beyond your years . Age is not a prerequisite for writing great songs . Anne , just actually last night I talked to my students about this . Jackson Browne wrote the song , “ These Days ” when he was only 16 . And Kenny Loggins wrote the song , “ House at Pooh Corner ” when he was only 17 and graduating from high school . So , age is not the prerequisite ... It ' s about being able to get what ' s inside of you , out .
[ Anne ] Wow .
[ WM ] And the song , “ Hey Girl ”, is on My Jesus . That ’ s such a valid and empowering song for girls struggling with self-worth issues . Please tell us about this song .
[ Anne ] Absolutely . I ' ve always wanted to write songs for girls of all ages , my generation , older and younger . I always struggled with the fact that we live in a world that is falling as we know , and the enemy is constantly trying to get into our heads and tell us that we ' re not worthy , and that we ' re not good enough . I remember watching my friends struggle with a lot with guys in high school and watching them wanting to give themselves to a guy . I just remember watching all my close friends just kind of crumble down by the weight of the world .
I wanted to write songs that spoke to women about their worth , and that it ' s in the Lord . And , I think if I can get into these girls and especially the young ones of like , " Hey , if you ' ll just place your worth in the Lord and just get through these middle school and high school years where you focus on Jesus ," I think once you get out of that stage where you realize how minor all those years were and how if you can just keep your eyes faced on Jesus , it ' s so much of a better life and you will not regret much , and your relationship with the Lord will be
