embody this dynamic where every stream of life is represented. Can you tell us about this? [Mariah] I remember the first time that I went to Philippe’s as well. It is a quintessential LA experience, and I think for exactly the reasons that you said. This is why we have such a love for LA, because it does bring all of these different cultures, and all of these different journeys, into one city. The fabric of what Mosaic is, is LA. Everyone is welcome, and everyone is part of it, and everyone makes up the uniqueness of what we do. This is why we decided to do worship music, because we realized that from one person to the next there was no similar journey, but there was one similar mission and are committed to moving that mission forward with our unique and individual voices. This is the heartbeat of what we do, making sure that everyone is represented, because that’s what the church is, a mosaic of all of these different pieces brought together to make something unique when we’re together. That is totally what Mosaic is about, that’s what LA is, and as a church beginning to capture what LA is in it’s most beautiful form, which is just unique in every different way. [Andres] I’ve only been in LA for about nine years, as opposed to Mariah who was born and raised here. It wasn’t a thing that just happened because the city is so diverse. This city has people from all over, but that’s just the first step. The next step is teaching everybody to get along. We’re intentional with our leadership, and we work really hard to make sure that we are inclusive and as welcoming as we can be as a community. [WM] With such a large collective of musicians and songwriters in the church, how do new musicians to the gathering “fit in” as musicians, and how are new songs presented to the core worship leadership? [Andres] In terms of new musicians getting involved, it’s the same process as it is for anyone in our church. If they want to get involved, it always starts with serving. Whether it be in music, graphic design, or parking, whatever the area is, you come to Mosaic and you get involved in serving. If I ever meet a musician that’s interested in forming part of our worship team we invite them to start serving somewhere first. Everybody on our team started serving somewhere first, whether its getting coffee, or parking, or serving on our connections team or being ushers. So that’s where it all starts for us, and that’s the first step. One thing we like to say over and over on our team is that July 2020 Subscribe for Free... 7
