worshipers worship the Father in “spirit and truth”. Can you unpack those two words for us, “spirit and truth”, as our definition of true worship? [Zach] I know that people have a tendency to get fractious about this spiritual worship subject, but for me the easiest way to break this down, regardless of whether you’re a Baptist, or a Charismatic, or a Pentecostal, look at Romans 12:1, which said, “Therefore brothers, in view of Gods mercy, I urge you to offer your bodies as living sacrifice, that this is your spiritual and acceptable act of worship.” So regardless of what you think it needs to look like in a musical standpoint, according to Romans 12:1 spiritual worship is when I submit myself to the Lord, that’s a better spiritual worship than anything that can come out of my mouth in song. I don’t mean to belittle anything that comes out of my mouth in song, but a submitted heart is spiritual worship. This is the simplicity of scripture, Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” So if you want to worship in truth, the only way to do that is through Jesus Christ. So there are all kinds of religious systems in the world, but there is only one that worships in truth. He was speaking to a Samaritan at the time, and they used different spiritual and religious systems and He is telling her that if you want to worship in truth there is only one way to go about that, and of course He explains, I am that, I am the truth. So to me, through Jesus, that’s the truth. And then full submission, when the Bible says to love the Lord, the word ‘Lord’ entails complete submission. [WM] It’s the “spirit and truth” part of the equation that sticks to and impacts people’s lives! [Zach] Yes! [WM] Your video series commences through some absolutely foundational teachings for anyone aspiring to and practicing, worship leadership. And then you finish (for now), with a teaching simply entitled, “Pastors”. Can you tell us about this, and the ideal teamwork involved between a pastor and the worship leader? [Zach] Absolutely! I think that this has become one of the most complicated relationships, or it can be one of the most complicated relationships in the church, between a pastor and a worship pastor. It’s also one of the most important relationships to get right, because a pastor needs to trust his worship pastor, and a worship pastor needs to be able to trust and follow his pastor.
