Population Futures
There are many different factors that can determine a countries population. The total fertility rate, the life expectancy, and the impact of migration all play factors in the population growth or the population decline. A combination of all those factors is what decided the population and allows us to predict the future populations to come. Corporations like the World Bank use these statistics to predict the future income of a country and if they will be in need of financial support. The birth dearth of a country is also looked at when predicting the future population. Birth dearth is the falling birth rates of a country. This is vital information to have to predict the upcoming population of any country. There are some implications of birth dearth, family structures are changed very drastically.
If families continue to only have one child then in the future that could hurt them and put a lot of pressure to look after the parents and continue the family legacy on their own. Also the ageing population, because of the baby boom after World War 2 our century was filled with young people but now, with smaller families thee next century will be dominated by older people which could be a problem when it comes to pensions, and retirements. There will also be labour shortages, with all the retirees now, the new generation coming in won’t have enough people to do all the jobs that need to be done in society. It is believed that many countries are going to have to accept many immigrants into their countries in order for all the jobs to get done. There will also be economic effects, our economy has a never ending growth, and people are becoming wealthier and therefore want more things. When there is a population implosion there will be fewer consumers which is great for the environment but will put a dent in the economy, especially in Canada.
North America?
The future population for North America is expected that by 2100 the population will drop 50% to 600 million. It is expected to fluctuate but ultimately the population in Canada will have a huge birth dearth. Other countries like Japan, Australia, and New Zealand will remain fairly stable until 2100 then it is expected that the population of specially Japan will decrease by a substantial amount.
