We are told that our love for one another will show the world we are disciples of Jesus( Jn 13:35). He gave us commands to love one another, love our neighbor as our self and even to love our enemy. Imagine being commanded to love our enemy. An enemy is someone who is hateful and hostile according to Strong’ s concordance. Therefore it is no easy task to love them yet Jesus commanded us to. Jesus goes on to say if we love those who love us is of no reward( Mt 5:46). The question I pose is this; why do we not love each other?
I come from a family whom most have served in the military and I myself severed for a short period during Desert Storm. The one thing I was taught growing up and then reinforced once I entered the military was you never leave someone behind. My grandfather who is a highly decorated war vet told stories of bringing wounded soldiers back to the medics for care. Many times soldiers would have to walk several miles carrying a wounded soldier on their back to ensure their well being even at the expense of their own personal safety.
With the command to love one another why do we“ kill” our wounded? Many times when Christians fall short of how we think they should live or they become caught up in sin we turn our back on them. Or worst yet, we join in to ridicule them or ostracize instead of being willing to do as a soldier does and carry them to safety.
Remember when a fellow Christian falls, we should be there to help them up. We should be there to encourage them and love them. Jesus did this for us! It says He loved us even while we were sinners( Rm 5:8). As a sinner we are against God and His will yet He chose to love us, therefore we should do the same for fellow Christians.
