When I was asked to participate in this newsletter I was in awe but very excited because God had answered a prayer of mine. I tend to get long winded, so with this being the first newsletter, I ' ll cut right to the chase. I am a children ' s ministry leader in my local CBS( Community Bible Study). If you don ' t know what CBS is, search for it because you probably have one in your area, and if not, maybe you will soon as it is growing more and more each year. Anyway, since I am a leader, we do things a bit different than the attendees of CBS. We, as the leadership council, get together the day before the actual CBS and do our Bible Study among other things like planning for the next session, prayer time, all that. Another thing we do is take turns each week giving a devotion. Well, as soon as I signed up to do my first one, I knew exactly what I would talk about and how I would give it. The message isn ' t important right now as I will share it with you at a later date, but the way I gave the devotion is what my articles will be about each week. I read scripture and told a personal testimony about |
something going on in my life and then played a song. God always speaks to me through song. I don ' t know how to explain it other than to tell you that when I ' m having a bad day, or even a good day, I ' ll turn on KLOVE( my favorite radio station, which plays Contemporary Christian music), and a song will play that deals with the exact situation that I am going through and God speaks to me through the lyrics. It ' s an amazing feeling and always leaves me wanting more of Jesus. So, I gave another devotion a couple months later, but this time I just wrote lyrics instead of playing the actual song. Well, at our final meet of the CBS year( term), I was approached by a good friend of mine, another children ' s ministry leader, who I had come to know during my time in CBS and grown to love so very dearly. She told me that God had been telling her to tell me that I needed to write. I couldn ' t understand her at first as I thought she meant a book. She meant that I needed to write as a free-lance writer, or for a magazine, or blog, or newspaper, or something.... that I just needed to |
write! She told me that I was good at it and that God was telling her to tell me to do something with that talent. So, I told her I would pray about it, and I did. And now, here I am, writing this to you. My column will be titled Song Stories. My friend( who I didn ' t ask permission to use her name yet, so I won ' t), came up with it, and I think it’ s perfect. I will write each week about a song that has touched my heart and tell how God has spoken to me through it. I leave you with this, if you have a talent that God has given you, use it. You never know who you might touch because of it. Thank you to my dear friend for nudging me in this direction, and thank you Randall for the opportunity to write with you. And the biggest thank you of all to God, for sending Jesus to die for little ol ' me and also for carrying me through my roughest days and just being there for me no matter what, guiding me in every step that I take. I owe everything I am and everything I have to you. Until next time... God Bless, Jen |
