and her stay on Bali

Dealing with another culture

Dealing with the Balinese culture was a very interesting experience. It is true that the culture has differences with the culture we are familiar with in the Netherlands, but if you are open to these differences you will gain a great experience. Try to understand why these differences occur. It can sometimes be annoying or irritating that manners and policies are different in Bali, but try to put this in perspective and talk to people from this different culture. At school we had classes in intercultural management as well and we had to keep a diary and keep track of interesting intercultural differences. This helps you in becoming more aware of the differences and helps you gain an understanding of the new culture you are living in. I never felt a real culture shock, although I experienced cultural differences almost every day.

Experience of minor

I did the minor Event Management. Within the minor you learn about all different types of events. Within the CBL cases and the module assignment you work as an event manager and work on cases that concern events to be organized and all aspects that are involved in this. Most assignments are done in groups of four students. This involves a lot of cooperation but since the classes were divided per hotel it was also easy to make appointments of when to work on the assignments. The whole module was based on the book of Verhaar.

As said before you will learn all aspects concerned with events. For instance, I learned how to perform a sales pitch, how to make a detailed budget and a script. Furthermore, I have learned techniques for sales pitches and I have practiced a lot with doing presentations. You will also learn how to think out of the box and be creative.
