Workshop 18.19 1 | Page 18

5th GRADE

Using recycled materials, we created a tornado in a bottle. With just two plastic bottles, 2 lids and a little bit of glue, we understood that the vortex is created when gravity pulls a liquid through an opening to form a rotating

tornado. The circular motion (created by our hand stirring the bottles) makes the water spin around the center of the vortex due to centripetal

force

Isn’t that amazing?

The fifth graders were given the task to put their English knowledge to practice by preparing a Dream Vacation to a premiere holiday destination. This real life activity was aimed to help them look at their English objectively and see how they would actually put their knowledge and skills into practice in the real world. The children were assigned teammates and were asked to make a dream vacation to any place that they desired to go. They were expected to produce a PowerPoint presentation listing the details of the vacation that would then be spoken in a presentation in front of the class.
