Should Alcohol Be Allowed on College Campuses?

By: Jack Waldron

he main question that many colleges these days ask is should Colleges across the country ban the use of alcohol within college campuses? Although there is controversy if alcohol should be allowed or not, but many do believe it should not be allowed and in fact, alcohol should be banned across College campuses and off campus housing. I, myself is a part of that group in which I believe alcohol should be banned across college campuses. But that is not as simple as many may believe. There have been many colleges that have banned the use of alcohol across the nation but that does not mean it is not still going on across the campuses. No matter what, college students find ways to get alcohol in their hands which results in bad situations across many college campuses. Therefore, as many may know, alcohol results in dropouts and failures, deaths and alcohol poisoning, and it even results in many rape cases that do occur college campuses and are also reported. dropouts and failures within college students.

One of the biggest ongoing situations that keeps occurring across colleges within our nation is the high use of alcohol daily results in an increase in the number of dropouts and failures within college students.

A study shows, “about twenty eight percent of college students drop out of college because of alcoholic use.” (Stoddart) This number does not do its justice either, as the number continues to increase as time goes on. It is currently going on track to be the on record one of the worst things to be going on within college campuses. But it is not just the result of dropping out either, there is also the chance of failure from this problem too. “About forty percent of academic issues stem off the use of alcohol." (Stoddart) Although the number is only at forty percent right now, it is quite surprising to see that big of a number just at the start. It is scary and should never be that high. Many should worry too as this number also continues to climb as the years go on and while move throughout many generations. The dropout rate back then was slim because of not having this problem but it has changed a lot as time has gone on.
