Information System Design and Development (National 4) This Unit explores an appropriate range of key facts and ideas relating to information system design and development. Learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of information system hardware, security, databases, web-based information systems and multimedia information systems through a range of practical and investigative tasks. These tasks will involve simple features and straightforward contexts. Learners will also explore the impact of emerging and innovative technologies on the environment and society. Added Value Unit: Computing Science Project (National 4) This Unit requires the learner to apply skills and knowledge from the other Units to analyse and solve an appropriate challenging computing and information science problem. Conditions of award (National 4) To achieve the Computing and Information Science (National 4) Course, learners must pass all of the required Units, including the Added Value Unit (the project). The required Units are shown in the Course outline section. National 4 Courses are not graded. National 5 Software Design and Development (National 5) This Unit explores an appropriate range of key facts and ideas relating to software design and development, including simple algorithms, data handling and human computer interaction. Learners will develop skills in problem solving, modeling and evaluating through practical tasks using appropriate programming environments in a range of contemporary contexts, such as games development and intelligent systems. These tasks will involve some complex features and both familiar and new contexts, which will require some interpretation on the part of the learner. Learners will also explore the impact of emerging and innovative technologies on the environment and society.
