Course Structure and Conditions of Award
Access 3
Expressive with Critical Activity - Produce drawings, studies and expressive work using a basic range of
familiar materials, equipment and techniques; awareness of what influences artists and their work.
Design with Critical Activity - Develop creative design ideas for a straightforward design task using simple
problem solving skills; awareness of what influences designers and their work.
National 4
Three mandatory Units:
Expressive with Critical Activity - developing media handling skills, using equipment and materials
expressively in the context of artists’ working practices.
Design with Critical Activity - plan, research and develop in response to a design brief developing creative
problem-solving and critical thinking in the context of designers’ working practice.
Practical Activity - present final solutions drawing on and extending acquired practical skills and problemsolving skills.
