Player of the year

Paityn: “Were you surprised to be announced player of the year in 2013 being a goalkeeper?”

Angerer: “Yes! I was in complete shock and I couldn’t believe it. There are a lot of great players in international women’s soccer. I thought Wambach would have me beat honestly. She’s a fantastic field player on the U.S. team as well as many other players. It’s a privilege to have gotten the award, but I know that a lot of other players have a huge potential to receive this title as well. Being a goalkeeper, I thought my chances were a little bit slimmer as opposed to the field players since there hasn’t been a goalkeeper player of the year so far.”

Paityn: “How does it feel to be the captain of your German national team?”

Angerer: “It feels great; I really enjoy my team and all the players. I believe our team has a lot of potential, yet I do want to get more experience and move around. Germany is one of the best teams I’ve played for though. They have excellent strategies, great character, and they’re very young. I love my team and being a part of it, but I feel like every soccer player should explore the world and be exposed to the strategy of different teams worldwide.”
