GAME 6: MSOE
VETERAN PRESENCE TO LEAD THE WAY
The Sabres return five players from the 2012-13 squad, led by seniors Dani Huray and
Sarah Albert. Huray tied the single-season record with 123 assists last season, averaging
nearly five helpers per game. Albert, who was the 2011-12 three-point percentage
champion among all divisions, is just 22 three-pointers shy of taking over second place
all-time in Marian laurels.
OH CAPTAINS, MY CAPTAINS
Head Coach Bill Peters has named his captains for the 2013-14 season and they are:
Seniors Dani Huray and Sarah Albert, junior Amelia Mirsberger and senior student
assistant coach Kelsey Moore.
WHO ARE YOU, WHO WHO
There are several new faces on the roster this season, nine to be exact. The list of
newcomers features eight freshmen and junior college transfer Sarah Olewinski, who
hails from Waukesha and attended UW-Waukesha a season ago.
Freshmen Molly Kovarik and Jessica Roberts trade in their soccer and volleyball
apparel, respectively, for a basketball uniform. Women’s basketball and women’s hockey
are the only teams on campus with multiple two-sport athletes.
RECORDS MAY FALL
Sarah Albert has shown to be one of the purest shooters in the conference, if not in the
nation. The Howards Grove native averaged 49.6 percent from three-point range in her
first season as a Sabre back in 2011-12. She followed it up with a 42.4-clip last year for a
career average of 45.7 percent.
She needs just 12 three’s, after going 10-for-20 through three games this season, to take
over second place on the all-time list and remains 71 three’s shy of tying Brook Haen
(‘11), who has a program-best 204.
Albert currently holds the career standard in free throw percentage, going 86.1 percent
(99-for-115) in her third season.
PRESEASON POLL
The Marian University women’s basketball team was picked to finish eighth in the 2013-14
Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Preseason Poll, as voted on by the NACC head
coaches and sports information directors.
Three-time defending champion Wisconsin Lutheran was the majority pick to repeat
once again, garnering 18-of-the-24 first-place votes for 281 poll points, after going 25-3 a
season ago, including a perfect 17-0 in league play.
