Seeing The Art So many turn their back on their ‘gift’ out of fear of the business side of being an artist. They often never show their work and convince themselves that taking the time to learn the business takes away and sullies the heart and intention of the ‘true’ artist. Business is not a 4-letter word I want to break the cycle that so many artists fall into where they are asked to be part of expos and community events that gain little exposure and leave the artist with no long-term income or support. I want to help Art to be recognized as a ‘gifted’ career. So that when someone undertakes the study of Art there is a business component included in their studies. What other plans are there for Stephanie Bond personally? My dream is to have my own space. I have been looking at buildings in the area and there are a few that are interesting. I have also been keeping a close eye on some successful events we have here and other communities. I have ideas on how to grow them into a sustainable event. 22 In my quiet moments after the Art Expo, many ideas came to me about how to make it bigger and better. One of the main take-aways from the event is my passion to help others succeed and the best way to do this is for me to succeed. I have been challenged by a friend to focus on me and step back from the urge to volunteer on many projects which distract me from my work. In truth I believe I used my volunteering to mask my fears which lead to procrastination of the personal work I need to do. So, I made my first step: I took 3 paintings to the newly renovated restaurant/inn/activity centre called ‘Camp de Base Coin-du-Banc’. I am focusing more on my work and improving business and marketing skills so that I can help others do the same. I believe the best way to mentor is to lead by example. I am excited and feeling inspired! Anyone who has visited my home gallery will know that I have a love of owls and historic boat scenes and I feel now is the time to devote more of my efforts to painting what I love. Recording my journey to success is teaching me so much about myself, about what is important to me and what I want to accomplish. It has given so much clarity. Cont’d...
