I’VE HAD A CRUMMY LIFE Monique Vek’s Story Cont’d... I mean Canada is beautiful and many would want to take tours with me, right? Well, actually, no they didn’t, the only tours I ever booked were mountain bike guiding tours. I am a pretty good mountain bike rider, I was skilled enough to do this. I ended up taking the handle Monique The Mountain Biker and biked 5 to 6 days a week. This is also when potential clients started asking “what does the trail look like? Do you have a video?”. I did not have video, but I did have a camera that could film pretty decent that I bought from Teresa. I started filming everything and anything, (okay maybe not everything, I kept it pg, lol) but I did develop a talent for film, enough so that I started a production company. I was filming all over the world, travelling and filming, seriously how cool is that! I still did guiding work and filmed on top of it. I was a go go go machine, probably a little too much go go go, my boys were growing up and time with them was becoming a huge priority. That is when the clothing line came to be, it just kinda happened. I have always been a horseback rider, it is stuck in my DNA from somewhere, I am the only rider in my family, the rest choosing bikes over horses, but I love both. I recall competing with my horse, the temperature gross hot, at the time, I wished I was wearing one of my cycling jerseys, as it was so much cooler than traditional western wear. That was the spark that lit M Sport 6. I knew nothing of fashion, heck I cant even sew a button on a shirt, but that fire, that drive, kept pushing me to go, and go that way I did. Now, back to that meeting with my business group. After the meeting I went to Chapters Book Store. I was scanning through the business section and saw an Arlene Dickinson book, she is on the Canadian Television show Dragon’s Den, kinda like what Shark Tank is to the United States. 24
